Project commissioned by the Mesa Arts Center
With individuals with memory loss and their caregivers
Translucent and opaque vinyls, variety of fabrics, cyanotype chemicals, paint
Over the course of two 4-week series of sessions, participants made artworks that used light and dark, sunlight and shadow as a material. In the first series, artworks were made on the studio window and on windows in participants’ homes that changed with the natural light passing through them and cast shadows into the studio and domestic spaces of their homes. In the second series, cyanotype artworks were made using sunlight to expose line drawings made by participants using fabric strips laid out on canvas. Collaborative structures ranged from individual dyad members working together to pairs of dyads to the entire group.
